Dog Lovers 4 safe trapping MN is pleased to announce its website!!!

The group was formed in winter of 2012 in response to the alarming number of dogs being caught and killed in body grip traps. We are not against trapping, in fact we support this heritage. We do, however, want to see effective changes made to how body grip traps and other trapping devices are used in order to minimize dog killings. We are a diverse group of dog owners that includes hunters and trappers in its membership. The MN DNR presently has no reporting system in place to record dogs caught in traps. One of the many features on our website is a place for people to report dogs caught in traps. Dog Lovers 4 safe trapping MN is a non-profit organization.

The 2012 legislature did pass S.F. 2265 sponsored by Sen John Carlson of Bemidji. Regrettably this bill was crafted with NO input from dog groups, so the changes are completely ineffective in reducing dog kills. Videos on our website clearly show how ineffective Sen Carlsons changes are. Videos on our website also offer solutions that will reduce dog kills. Dog owners have been portrayed by some trappers as “irresponsible” and even Rep Tom Hackbarth has gone on record saying dog owners don’t manage their dogs. Statements like these do not recognize dogs instincts and behaviors and are completely misguided.

The simple fact is there are 2 million dog owners in MN who wish to safely recreate on public land, and cannot do so with the current trapping regulations. We aim to change that.

We will also be at the Game Fair in August and look forward to meeting and discussing our concerns and ideas with the public.
