The petitions you signed this summer--at Pet A Palooza, Dog Days of Summer, Game Fair, and the MN Renaissance Festival--have been delivered by email to your returning Minnesota Legislators (new MN Representatives will receive theirs in January, once they have their new offices and email addresses).

Here's a copy of the cover letter that each of them received along with a PDF file of your scanned petition signatures:

Re: Petition to protect dogs from lethal trapping and snaring

Dear Legislator,

Attached, please see petitions signed by your constituents in support of Minnesota trapping regulations to protect dogs from lethal trapping and snaring.

These handwritten signatures were gathered this summer by the group Dog Lovers 4 Safe Trapping MN at community events including Pet A Palooza, Dog Days of Summer, Game Fair, and the MN Renaissance Festival. The online signatures were gathered beginning in 2012 at the Petition for Safe Public Lands. A new Petition to "Stop Killing MN Dogs" was begun in 2014.

Your constituents support the following four regulations for lethal trapping and snaring in Minnesota:

1. Five feet above the ground or ice; or
2. Submerged in water; or
3. In boxes that exclude dogs.
4. Lethal land snares replaced with non-lethal cable-restraint snares.

The first three points were proposed in the 2013-2014 body-gripping trapping regulations bill HF 456 / SF 452. The fourth is being proposed this year based on new information. Please look for a bill with these four points to be reintroduced in the new legislative session; and please ask for it to receive fair, open hearings and votes.
